2nd Meeting of the 175th Session (1995-1996)
The first meeting of the session will be held within Merchiston Campus of Napier University on Monday 6th November 1995 at 7pm.
Transport policy is currently a major issue. Official forecasts of traffic growth will be discussed which show National trends in car an public transport use together with road and rail freight traffic and comments will be made on the relevance of national averages.
City problems of parking, congestion, pollution, and public transport service levels are under deliberation. The shape of city new and urban development is now controlled by transport considerations.
The reduction of City traffic congestion depends on controlling vehicle use by "carrots" and "sticks" measure. Trams, tracks and trolley buses with subsidised park and ride facilites are carrot approaches whilst parking controls, licenses, road pricing and regulation constitute the stick approach.
Planners and politicians need to make may[sic] positive decisions if life is not to be strangled by the motor car!
