 \n\nGreat strides have been made to decarbonise the country and the UK
  has reduced its greenhouse and carbon emissions have halved over the
  past 35 years and we now contribute less than 1% of the global total.
  Despite the fact that the UK has weaned itself off of domestic coal\,
  it is an inconvenient reality that oil and gas still accounts for
  three quarters of its energy consumption. Whilst the contributions
  of wind\, solar and other renewable technologies have increased and
  there are days when they meet the electricity need of the country\,
  baseload is still needed when demand is high\, especially on dark\,
  cold and windless winter days meaning that there are times when
  gas-fired and nuclear power stations contribute over half of our
  electricity needs. The talk will outline the challenges and
  decarbonisation solutions required to transform our energy system
  to keep the lights on\, heat our homes\, fuel industry and keep
  the country moving.
